There is something to be said for school breaks. The laid-back pace of mornings. Spending all day in pjs (the kids, not me—I’d like to, but I’d get less than nothing done if I did). Doing whatever you want.
But there’s also something to be said for school. Because sometimes you just can’t figure out
what you want to do. You need someone to
give you direction.
Kids—mine, at least—thrive on structure. And if there’s one thing that I’ve learned in
almost eleven years of motherhood it’s that I do not. Thrive on structure, that is. Structure stresses me out—too much
pressure—especially if I’m the one who’s supposed to provide it.
My kids may not know it, but they’re always ready for
school to start back up. And truthfully,
so am I. But I also understand their
reluctance to get back into their routine.
We all like to sleep in, after all.
So, to soften the back-to-school blow, we spent this last day of February break at one of their favorite places: the National Museum of Play. One last day of having unlimited fun and doing whatever they wanted before they had to put their cute little noses back to the academic grindstone.
