But after two extended (and accident-free) ventures from home this weekend, I’m feeling a little more confident. So I’m chancing a few moments to update you on the progress. Here are some of the funnier moments the past two weeks at our place have produce (which will, of course, be cataloged away for future embarrassment, especially when girlfriends come over)…
- Lij came to me with a “special treat” in his underwear. “Why did you go poo-poo in your underwear? Why didn’t you put it in the potty?” I asked (very calmly, I might add, under the circumstances). Lij replied, “Me no have that funny feeling…” Thank you, Mo Willems.
- From the bathroom I hear a panicked “Help me!” So I call out, “What’s wrong sweetie? What do you need help with?” Lij, standing in front of the toilet, having successfully aimed half his pee in the potty and having missed with the other half (onto his underwear and the floor), replies, “Me do something wrong!” (Translation: This did not go the way it was supposed to.)
- After sitting on the potty for some time, Lij cried out, "Come on, poo poo. Come on!"
- Inspired by Lijah’s progress, Dylan is constantly stripping off his diaper and yelling, “Pee-pee in potty!” If only that were true…
- Usually, Dylan’s attempts end up in the middle of the bathroom floor. However, last weekend, he got really close. He ran into the bathroom, shouting his usual battle cry, and closed the door. A ridiculously short time later (something like ten seconds) he emerges and excitedly stated, “Pee-pee in potty”. Yeah right! But Alexander went to check it out. What he saw was a yellow puddle on the floor in the front of the toilet and the front porcelain slightly dripping. If only Dylan were a little bit taller…
- And finally, Lij was even successful in a public bathroom at church yesterday. However it was a family affair and halfway through the process – Lij, Dyl and Alexander all crammed in a stall together – Alexander looked down to see Dylan ducked under the divider, waving at the person in the next stall.
So that pretty much catches you up on what’s been happening the past couple weeks at sweet mama’s house. That, and Nicholas rolled from tummy to back for the first time this past Friday. Yeah for milestones!!

I am not looking forward to going through this again. It gives you something to laugh about... and then sanitize.
oh man, we are re-training my almost 3 year old. She was almost there but then I hit a tired-mommy bump and am discovering today what those few weeks off cost me. c'est la vie, eh?
That sounds like enough to keep anyone away from blogging.
Maybe Dylan will train more quickly when he's motivated by Lij.
it's all about pee and poo at our place, too!
I've actually noticed that my second son is much more interested in the potty situation a lot earlier than big brother was. The vocab and the motivation (competition to be a big boy) is there, so wahoo...working toward a diaper free home (until the next infant comes along, of course). Good for you - hanging in there with the potty training adventure! You'll find public toilets in all kinds of interesting places that you never knew existed until you're trying desparately to help the three-year-old not have an accident. Lots of fun.
That is awesome. We are trying so hard to get the Pee in the potty. Pooh we have down. Pee that is another story entirely.
YEAH!!! I've missed you....but as you can tell I've been sadly lacking in the blogging dept myself so no judgement here....just glad to read your stories of "progress" varied though that term may be in your case! Thanks for the laughs and the reminder that being the mom of only girls might not have been such a bad thing after all! (No aiming required!)
Hey! are you still around? I changed my blog a lot lately - instead of Tess Talks it's http://thelizness.blogspot.com
