It’s All in the Delivery

Lij sat in front of his dinner carefully picking all of the onion strips out. Then he came across a red pepper strip. He held it up at arm’s length to examine it and then stuck it right in front of Alexander’s nose, demanding, “What’s this?”

“A sweet pepper,” Alexander said.

“I don’t like peppers.” And the poor limp pepper was cast onto the pile of rejected onions.

As Lij was ridding his plate of another of the offending veggies, Alexander noted, “It’s a sweet pepper. It’s not spicy.”

Lij paused, so Alexander continued, “Like a sugar pepper.”

(Listen to that spin! He should’ve been a politician.)

Lij examined the suspect vegetable, taking a furtive nibble, while Alexander sealed the deal, “A candy pepper, you might say.”

Lij ate the whole pepper strip in his hand and even fished the other one off of the onion pile to eat it.

I’ll have to remember to call it "candy broccoli" the next time I serve it.

It sounds like we'll have to take some pointers from Alexander on vegetable advertising when the time comes. Great story!
