Ringing in the New Year

Disclaimer:  still in summary mode...

We helped my dad celebrate his birthday early in the month and then my very own January baby celebrated his seventh birthday a few weeks later.  And he had a very clear vision of what he wanted for his cake:  a chocolate chip cookie cake with a penguin and an igloo.  Sometimes the preferences of my children crack me up.  Fortunately, this one didn’t require too much decorating skill, so I was happy to oblige.

In addition to his well-thought-out cake, we also had a little family gathering for his birthday.  It’s so nice to be close enough to have family join us for these everyday moments.  And I know they enjoy being able to watch the joy and excitement firsthand.

Although we might not be getting much snow this winter, we are getting our fair share of wind.  The gusts can be extremely loud at times.  The building that holds the town hall and library in our town proudly claims to be located ‘on top of windy hill.’  Our house is across the street from them on top of another hill and I think I might consider fighting them for the title.  After all, our very blustery weather is pulling our house apart.

fortunately, we were able to find the missing piece of siding and reattach it

Our house may be looking a little bit shabbier lately, but at least our kids are well dressed.  One of them anyway.  He’s been wanting a suit coat just like Dad’s to wear to church for months now and we finally found one.

I’m not sure I’m comfortable with how grown-up it makes him look, though.  Seriously.  When did he get so old?!
