Dapper Dans and the Speed Racer

Disclaimer:  still in summary mode...

My red-headed children by far produce the most laundry in the house.  I’ve yet to decide if this a product of hair color or not, but it’s certainly not related to messiness (that title would have to go to #3).   Maddy just likes to change her clothes.  A lot.  The girl goes through at least three outfits a day on average.  And then there’s Dyl, who is super fastidious about his clothing.  If he gets a spot of water on his shirt brushing his teeth, that shirt’s got to go.  Couple this with the fact that he’s developing a very strong sense of personal style – currently it’s nothing but polos and button-down shirts, tucked in of course.  So when Dapper Dan saw his brother’s new suit coat last month, he immediately realized he had to have one too.  As luck would have it, we were able to find another one fairly soon after (avoiding many it’s-Sunday-again-and-my-clothing-is-inferior tantrums).

Don’t they look handsome?

In other new, I’m so proud of Maddy!  This month at the boys school they devoted a week of gym class to what they dubbed their ‘Daytona 500.’  The gym was transformed into a ‘race track’ and the kids spend their gym time running around the track.  They kept track of how many ‘laps’ they did and each grade battled for first and also tried to beat last year’s total.  Teachers were invited to run or walk too as were the student’s families.  I decided to head over to the school for one gym class for each of the boys (three classes total).  I was a little nervous taking Maddy with me because I wasn’t sure how much she’d want to do.  But I figured that we could walk most of the time.  Let’s just say, I shouldn’t have been worried.  We walked onto that ‘track’ and there was no stopping Mads.  She ran for a mile and a half straight (sometimes longer) during each class – a total of 4 1/2 miles in two days!  Everyone in the gym was duly impressed.  Actually, I think the gym teacher was thinking of recruiting her to run track for the high school!  Each of the boys did really great as well.  And I got in three extra workouts.  All in all, a super fun event.  I’m glad we ended up at a school that plans such neat activities for students (and their families).
