May the Fourth Be With You

Disclaimer:  still in summary mode...

The title has basically nothing to do with this post except that it’s about May, but I had to use it since we’re a bit Star Wars crazy in this house.  That and the fact that I forgot to say it on the day (it’s too good not to use).  On second thought, this picture alone could warrant the title, no?

During Maddy’s four-year-old checkup last month the doctor noticed a reflective anomaly in one of her eyes and immediately referred us to a specialist.  She wanted to rule out scary things like brain tumors and such.  Talk about stress!  Though the results of the second eye exam weren’t normal (she has fairly severe amblyopia in one eye), we feel really blessed that it wasn’t anything more serious.  The specialist prescribed glasses (an eye patch and/or surgery may be needed if the glasses don’t work).  It could have been so much worse and we’re so thankful it wasn’t.  Plus have you ever seen a cuter treatment?

As the weather’s been warming, we’ve been spending more and more time outdoors.  Early in the month we explored a fantastic park nearby.  Some of us were more reluctant than others to go adventuring.

sing it with me... every party needs a pooper; that we invited lijah

But in the end we all managed to have a little fun.

climbing the huge (rolling) hill

which was so much more fun to come down

taking a break (not sure if he was going up or down though)

after he sat up from this roll, his eyes were literally crossed for a good thirty seconds

why, hello there!

Even us old folks got in on the action and rolled down the huge hill (but I’ll spare you those pictures)!

Then, at the end of the month, we joined Grandma & Tom’pa at the beach (of the Great Lake variety, anyway) for a barbeque.  The day started out cool and rainy, but warmed up nicely once the sun came out.  Definitely worth the drive!

the cold, rainy bit

taking things in stride

the warmer, sunny bit

fact: a child's life is just plain better with water and sand

right about then a park ranger came by and told all the 'illegal' waders to stay on this side of the sign.  oops!
