5K Day

Each time I’ve laced up my shoes to run a 5K, the boys have asked “can we race too?” (Especially this past Thanksgiving when two of their cousins raced.) But Alexander and I have been extremely hesitant to shell out $15 a piece to see if our kids *might* actually finish their mile-long race.

On the other hand, I want the kids to get excited about being active and healthy and perhaps entering races is a means to that end. So when I saw that our school district was holding a 5K and free(!!!) kids’ fun run, I was on the website signing up that same day. And man, were the boys excited when I told them! However, I was under the (false) impression that the kids’ run was a mile, so we only signed the older two up. As you can imagine, this did not sit well with the littles.

The kids’ race ended up being more like a 100 yard dash. Live and learn. And, if it’s free, just register all the kids for the race.

scoping out the competition

proof that all the kids were in fact there, even though this one wasn't happy about not racing

stretching with the boys

i lost their attention somewhere along the line and finished up stretching solo

at the starting line, anticipating their race

this is my "finish line" face apparently - so serious!

By the way, I am still on the hunt for the elusive-to-me sub-30 finish. This time I was just 5 seconds off. Seriously?! Guess I'll just have to find another race :)
