However, if any of you find yourselves feeling the same way, then this post is for you. For what information could be more useless (while still being relevant to my blog, see Tuesday’s post) than the multiple methods abounding out there for guessing what gender an unborn child will be?
Unreliable as these methods may be, if you’ve ever been pregnant or known someone who has, you’ve doubtless heard at least one person’s “sure-fire way” of divining gender. And, since we’re being completely honest here, I should probably admit that I too have a favorite.
My college roommate firmly believed that you get prettier during pregnancy if you’re carrying a boy and uglier if it’s a girl. For years her family has sworn by this theory of gender selection – and they’ve been right a fair amount of the time. I too have used it many times now and have only been wrong twice – once because the person was carrying a boy and a girl and once because the person was seriously cheated out of her right to have a girl. My special power does not extend to myself however – I always think I look just the same.
So without further ado, I present my final bulleted selection of “List Week:” How To Tell What You’re Having When Ultrasound and Amniocentesis Just Don’t Cut It. Enjoy:
How You’re Carrying
- Weight in front (boy); on your hips and bottom (girl)
- Carrying low (boy); high (girl)
- Belly looks like a basketball (boy); like a watermelon (girl)
How You’re Feeling
- No morning sickness in early pregnancy (boy); morning sickness (girl)
- Cold feet, dry hands or more headaches than before (boy); moodier (girl)
What You’re Craving
- Salty or sour foods (boy); sweets (girl)
- Protein – meats and cheese (boy); fruit or orange juice (girl)
What You’re Experiencing
- Leg hair growing faster (boy); hair gets red highlights or more face breakouts (girl)
- Nose is spreading (boy); chest really developing or at least the left side (girl)
And The Weird and Wacky
- Your pillow faces north when you sleep (boy); south (girl)
- Dad-to-be is gaining weight right along with you (boy); you refuse to eat the heel of a loaf of bread (girl)
- Your wedding ring, hung over your belly, moves in circles (boy); side to side (girl)
For today’s comments, I’m accepting amusing or odd pregnancy stories, how you tell what a person’s having or your guesses as to what my next bundle of joy might be (see picture above; sorry, no picture of the “bump” yet as I don’t really have one – any more than usual that is – at the moment). And happy commenting!

ok, the pictures are too cute. i have no idea what you're having, but i did know immediately with all of mine what they were. it was a weird god thing, but still. He's amazingly accurate, ya know.
I had a dream before I was even married that I would have a girl and then a boy. That's what happened. Now I have no idea what's next.
I knew I was having a son from pretty much the moment I found out I was pregnant, I'm not sure how I knew, though. I just FELT it.
My dad has a theory, though. His theory is that men who are athletic have girls, and men who are more intellectual have boys. So far, his theory has worked pretty well.
I should have known it was twins--I had EVERY symptom on the list! LOL.
