The School Bus In My Bathroom & Other Snippets From My Weekend

Alexander had to go on a Boy Scout campout on Friday night (he’s an assistant scout master now). This left me home alone with two very unhappy boys who missed their daddy. It was not a fun night for me.

Alexander had to go on a Boy Scout campout on Friday night. Somehow, although he is methodical about packing, he managed to forget his sleeping bag. He had to sleep without padding or covering and the scouts kept him up until 2am. It was not a fun night for him either.

Dylan has been crying for what feels like a week straight. (This is only a slight exaggeration). He has been in a really foul mood for a really long time. We have narrowed it down to teething pain or the 15 month old equivalent of menopause. Either way, it’s been a LONG how ever many days.

Alexander was unable to enjoy any of our Easter Sunday church services. Dylan decided Sunday was in fact not a day of rest and didn’t give us a break from his recent attitude. Alexander had to drive him around the block in the car while Lij and I were spiritually uplifted (as much as you can be at any rate if you’re a three year old or if you’re sitting next to a three year old).

Yesterday evening, after a very long day, I found myself with a moment’s peace and decided to retreat to the bathroom. I opened the door and was blocked entrance. A large school bus toy stood squarely in my way.

It is something akin to Murphy’s Law that when a tired parent’s head hits the pillow a cranky child will awake from an otherwise peaceful sleep and scream hysterically for hours. Alexander didn’t get much sleep last night. Dylan got even less. I was able to stay in bed, though aggravatingly awake at times, due to the fact that I have an awesome husband. Lij never stirred.

I nervously asked Alexander how he was this morning before he left for work. He (almost) cheerily replied that he had gotten more sleep last night then he had on Friday night. Like I said, I have an AWESOME husband.

He IS awesome! I barely remember the days of little sleep but to this day the sound of a baby crying at night can send "the dreads" down my spine. It's funny because I usually hear these cries in a hotel (thin walls) and even knowing the kid can't possibly be mine does not stop me from first thinking "Oh, no....not tonight". Here's to a better night's sleep for you AND your tired other half!

Yes, you definitely have "a keeper". And he is blessed as well, to have a wife who loves and appreciates him. Here's to living happily ever after!
