A Visit to the Flower City

Two of my favorite people work in Rochester – my dad and my sister. My sister, due to studying for and taking finals, wasn’t going to be available to party with us until Wednesday. And we weren’t heading down to Dad’s house until Christmas Day. Far too long to be so close to two such fabulous people without seeing them! So we decided to visit the flower city and drop in on them for lunch.

Dad works for the city school district and was able to take time out of his busy day to show us around for a bit. The kids really loved seeing all the machines that Grandpa is in charge of. And it was really great to meet so many of his coworkers. Some even knew me from back when I was my kids’ ages… crazy! Then Dad and our crew drove over to my sister’s office building for lunch. Her building has an awesome cafeteria and a beautiful courtyard called ‘the winter garden’ where we ate our meal. We had a lot of fun, but unfortunately didn’t take any pictures. {I’ve gotta get better about that!}

Dad, however, did pulled out our camera and snap these pictures (of a display set up in the winter garden) when he found out that Alexander had visited the actual site of the Berlin Wall in Germany.

Upon closer inspection though, Alexander determined that this piece of wall had been doctored to more closely resemble the iconic photo accompanying the display. It may still have been a real piece of the wall, but we were all just a little disillusioned by this small bit of historical deception.

Thanks Dad and little Sis for a wonderful afternoon!

How neat to get to be back in Flower City (originally called Flour City, but changed because the latter seemed more enticing, I suppose) That city is especially meaningful to you as you courted there lo those many years ago! Very neat about Alexander having been to the wall - one of the greatest moments of history!mamasmama
