Fancy That Friday – Father’s Day By The Numbers

I like to think of myself as a fairly creative person. Especially when it comes to presents. I put a lot of thought into the gifts I give people. In fact, I’m already thinking about Christmas.

So I was a little shocked to see just how many of my past Father’s Day gifts have been predictable. I’d still like to think they were in some way unique (and hopefully appreciated), but according to the numbers they were downright average. Wondering how your presents measure up? Take a look:

Did you know that according to percentages published in this month’s Parents magazine the Father(s) in your life is most likely to receive:

A greeting card (71%)
Clothes (32%)
A gift card (24%)
Books or CDs (23%)
Electronics (13%)
Tools or appliances (12%)

So how do your presents stack up? Average? Exciting? Ordinary? If you haven’t bought a gift yet, buck the system. What can you come up with to give that special Father of yours (or your children) this year that doesn’t fit into any of the molds?

By the way, for those of you math whizzes out there, the above percentages don’t add up to 100 (in fact, they exceed it by seventy-five). Hey, I never said this was scientific.

Maybe the numbers don't add to 100 because some of the gifts people give qualify for several of those categories (e.g., the wearable MP3 player that attaches to your tie and has a built-in Swiss army knife).
