Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

I’m doing pretty well not crossing that line I’ve drawn in my carpet. But matters aren’t helped when it’s so bloomin’ hot at night that I can’t sleep! Then there’s nothing left to do but get up and cross the line – whether I have to or not.

The past few evenings have been sweltering. I’m a cool weather girl myself, so 80s during the day is approaching too warm for my taste. But 80s at night? Are you kidding me? Don’t you know I’m pregnant here?!!

Neither Alexander nor I like to sleep with the AC on. We prefer a nice cool breeze wafting in through an open window. But since Monday, the only thing wafting in our windows (besides the incessant barking of our neighbors’ dogs) has been hot, sticky, thick-enough-to-drink air. Needless to say we’ve condescended to air condition at night.

Yesterday, it was over 100 (during the day – not at night, thank goodness). The only thing that seemed sensible was to allow the boys to rock out in a lukewarm bath and try to beat the heat that way. To make it as fun (and long-lasting) a diversion as possible I also filled the bath with some bubbles. Lavender and chamomile bubbles to be precise. Because if I happened to get a double nap out of the whole thing too, well, hey, all the better!

As Lij was easing himself down into the water, he rested his arms on the side of the tub and said “Me like bubbles. SO. MUCH!” Me too baby, me too. Then again, you might possibly be reacting to the mere fact that even in a lukewarm bath your body’s about 10 degrees cooler than it was in our living room. But have fun in the bubbles, Lij. And enjoy the cool while it lasts.

It's hot here too! Ditto on the cool night breeze being preferable to air conditioning but being in the HUMID....make that VERY HUMID midwest in the middle of the forest (therefore no breeze in the summer) makes me accept the unacceptable if you know what I mean : ) I pity you in your condition though!
