The time has come. Can you handle the truth? Here goes…
1. I was born in the same place in
False: I was born in TN although not in Limestone (the historic birthplace of Crockett and now home to a State Park honoring him). When I moved from TN to NY in grade school everyone expected me to be a hick, so I played along, telling them I was born on the same mountain top as Davy Crockett. And they believed me. Since then, this has become perhaps my favorite lie ever.
2. I have lived in more places than Alexander (my husband) has…
False: If we’re counting states and countries, Alexander has lived in five while I have only lived in four. If we’re counting the actual physical residences, then Alex’s total is well over fourteen. My total is only nine. Either way you count it, Alexander has lived more places.
3. I have operated a backhoe (like “Scoop” from Bob the Builder only a real one)…
False: My Dad loves “big boy toys.” At one time he owned a bulldozer, two tractors, a backhoe and a riding lawn mower. I’ve operated the bulldozer (to pull one of the tractors out of a ditch), one of the tractors (driving it home after it was out of the ditch) and the riding lawn mower. I never got to try my hand at the real-life Scoop though.
4. I have flown an airplane (also a real one)…
True: In addition to many other things, my Dad is a small aircraft pilot. In fact, he got his pilot’s license before he got his driver’s license. My first Christmas we hung our stockings up on the wings of a plane he was building. Although he was never able to finish that one, he did buy a plane which he had for many years. The reason my Dad had all the big boy toys mentioned above at one time is because he actually built his own runway and hanger for his plane at our house. He used to take me up flying a lot and sometimes he’d hand the controls over to me (briefly and when we were at a safe altitude with nothing around us). So for however short a period of time, I have flown a plane. A real one.
5. I have less college debt to pay off than Alexander has…
False: Both Alexander and I were able to escape college with a combined total of one master’s and two undergraduate degrees and ZERO debt. Neither of us had any to pay off, so I didn’t have less than him.
Congrats to HLH from Let’s Go Fly A Kite and Nutella from Ciao, Bella! for guessing the truth from amidst the lies. Go check them out – if you don’t read them already. And thanks also to everyone else for playing. This was fun! And it was also my most commented-on post to date. Don’t be strangers.

That was fun to read. I was wrong though, wrong! I shall cry now.
A well, there are other things to win. By the way, congrats on your nomination if I haven't already said that.
Good job on the college debt thing.
I loved you article it was a great read. Thankyou.
WooHoo! I guessed it right. Very cool, that is something I want to do someday.
Also good job on the debt thing...JD will be done in April with no debt either. Thank goodness for church subsidizations and pell grants!
