To Cut or Not to Cut

With all the important things going on in the world, why not discuss one? Let’s see… which one to choice. Oh, I know! My hair.

Although not of global or even national importance, I’m sure you can all relate to that moment when you start contemplating a new haircut. There may be a lot of catalysts, but the result is the same. You find yourself thinking you need a change. I don’t always know what prompts me into haircuts. However, in there somewhere is always the desire for something new.

Back in October, I got my hair cut like this:

However, my hair seems to grow freakishly fast. So now, just four months later (I usually go a year or more between cuts), I find myself thinking my hair has grown too long. It’s at that uncomfortable length where you can accidentally lean back and catch it between your back and the back of your chair. (I have lost more hairs that way). Dylan has also taken to yanking it frequently, so I’m thinking shorter would be better for that too. At least that way he’d have to be really close to me before he could reach it. My follicles might have a fighting chance.

My problem now, aside from convincing Alexander that I am indeed still low-maintenance, is that I don’t really know how I want my hair to look. I just know I want it shorter.

I’ve really been enjoying the layers of my current cut. They add a fun depth to my hair and (for the most part) are manageable. So for my next cut, I’ve been thinking something along these lines might be nice:

Or this: (I think this is pretty much the same style, but it shows that there are a few more layers cut in than the other pic does.)

But are those bangs in the pictures? I am acutely aware of my lack of forehead and therefore my resulting inability to pull of a bang. Am I setting myself up for disaster?

My sister works weekends at a salon. She’s actually a massage therapist and not a stylist, but she knows what looks good and she stays current on what’s happening in the world (something I fall painfully behind in). I trust her opinion, but as previously stated, she doesn’t live anywhere near me. I’ve asked for her help, but it will be slow in coming.

And so I open it up to you. Any suggestions? Pictures are always helpful. So, please help…

I agree. I think both of the pictures have parts farther over on the side of the head than I usually part my hair. I would definitely tell my stylist to take that into account.

Thanks for your comment, Liz.

Resist the bangs. A nice chin-length bob would be cute.
